Are you experiencing any pain in your neck?
A neck issue or stiffness is a widespread condition that most people experience at some point in their lives. Initially, it may come from sleeping in an awkward position and may only last for a day or two, so we tend to ignore it. However, neck pain can fast become a chronic condition.
If it lasts too long, it can become very frustrating and may even become debilitating if not treated early enough. So much so that we cannot turn our heads without severe pain, which makes driving impossible. When pain becomes this severe, it is not easy to do most of our favorite hobbies, like reading or knitting.
When someone is experiencing neck pain or discomfort, they should seek medical treatment. Physical Therapy can reduce neck pain, stiffness, and tightness and can improve range of motion. It also increases strength and stability, improves posture and mechanics through manual therapy, and can open up the joint space and reduce spinal nerve impingement (when a nerve in the neck becomes compressed or irritated).
Why do people experience neck pain?
If a neck issue or pain continues to be ignored and is left untreated, it can seriously negatively impact daily living activities and overall quality of life. Pain, stiffness, decreased mobility, and loss of range of motion, strength, and function can lead to your inability to enjoy cooking, writing, and even getting a good night’s sleep.
When a nerve root impinges in the neck, it can decrease motor function in the upper extremities, such as picking something up off the floor or raising your arms to put away the dishes.
